18 Aug Hunting in the Caprivi for Elephant
Rusty Flowers hunted with us on many occasions, the big 4 had been successfully taken over a few safaris in the past but a Really Big Elephant was still on Rusty’s list.
We were Booked to hunt Tanzania in a really good area but the USA Fish and wildlife put a stop to that, by banning the Imports of Ivory into the USA from Tanzania.
We went to plan B which was South Africa in a area that is open to the Kruger National park. This too was steamrolled by Bureaucracy and corrupt officials.
After a lot of investigation and research I decided that the Babwhata east, block in the Caprivi was the place, and the area had just been allocated to someone I could work with.
May found us in the concession and the Hunt was on. Rusty Jimmy and myself were in high spirits and ready for the hunt for a really big Jumbo.
At first things were a bit slow, mainly due to a lot of water out in the bush still, but on day 8 we came across a tremendous Bull that had just crossed into our area from Botswana.
A short stalk got Rusty in close proximity to down the 81 Pound bull. What a dream come true.
